The sudden death of Dr. Edwin L. McCausland last Saturday, at his home, 66 West Greenwood avenue, Lansdowne, came as a shock to his legion of friends in Delaware County, where he had practiced for the past 35 years.

Dr. McCausland, who was 60 years of age, suffered the first of two heart attacks last Thursday. On Saturday morning his physician and the ambulance of the Lansdowne Fire Company were at the McCausland home, ready to take him to the Delaware County Hospital, when he had another heart attack. He passed away at 8:15 o'clock.

Dr. McCausland was born in Philadelphia, but spent most of his life in Delaware County. For the past thirty years he had lived in Lansdowne.

Two years after he graduated from the College of Optometry at the University of Toronto in Canada, Dr. McCausland opened offices in Darby and was maintaining them in the same location 35 years later at the time of his death.

He was active in Masonic circles, being a member of the only mounted lodge of Masons in Pennsylvania.

Of a charitable disposition, through the years Dr. McCausland extended a helping hand to hundreds of less fortunate persons, doing it in such a quite way that no one will ever know the extent of his charities.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ethel L. McCausland; a daughter, Mrs. Raymond Andrews, of Kirkland, near Seattle, Wash.; two sons, Edwin L. Jr., of Shanks Village, N. Y., who is principle of an elementry school at New City, N. Y., and doing graduate work at Columbia University, and Stanley L. who is an instructor at American University, Washington, D. C., and studying for a medical degree at George Washington University.

Also surviving are two brothers, Dr. A. Newton McCausland, of Warren, Pa., and Dorman (Sp. Norman) S. McCausland, of "The Timbers." Wawa, this county; and two grandchildren, Patricia Ann McCausland, of Shanks Village, N. Y. and Bruce Andrews, of Kirkland, Wash.

Burial services were held from the funeral home of his nephew, Elmer McCausland, in Glenolden, Wednesday afternoon. They were conducted by the Rev. John W. McKelvey, pastor of Lansdowne Methodist Church, of which Dr. McCausland was a member, assisted by the Rev. Edward W. Randolph, retired former pastor of the Lansdowne Church, and the Rev. Edward A. Bastard, of Grace Reformed Church, of Collingdale, as an intimate friend of the McCausland family. Dr. McCausland's mother was mainly responsible for the founding of Grace Church. Interment was in Alkington Cemetery.
