Billy James "Jim" Montee
(27 March 1937 - 30 January 2007)

GALENA, KANSAS: Jim Montee, age 69, left this world January 30, 2007 to rest in the arms of his Lord and Savior after a long illness.

He was born March 27, 1937 in Galena, KS.

Jim was the beloved husband of Jane Green Montee whom he married July 25, 1958 in Galena, KS resulting in a long and loving companionship.

Jim is the father to Kimberly Jane Erwin, and her husband, Kevin, Purcell, MO, and Bruce James Montee and his wife Tani, Riverton, KS.

Jim also leaves behind one sister, Karen Shamblin and her husband, Tim, Springfield, MO, and two brothers, Don Montee and his wife Peggy, Sullivan, MO and Richard Montee, Omaha, NE and three beautiful and much loved grandchildren, Kelsey Erwin, Jenna Montee, and Jacob Montee.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Ray Montee and his dear mother Alliene Genevive Overstreet Montee.

He was a lifelong resident of Galena, KS, serving as city council member from 1961 to 1964. He was elected to serve his city again, but due to his declining health, was unable to finish out his term resulting in his recent resignation. Jim served his city in other capacities which included mayor, planning and zoning committee and school board member. He had been a coach and was active with the city's youth sports programs.

Jim was a proud and dedicated member of First Baptist Church, Galena, KS for many years. He leaves behind his loving church family and many friends. Jim served so faithfully as a deacon for his church. Among several other church offices, he was a Sunday School teacher for several years.

He was Treasurer of the KOAM Encampment of the BMA of KS & W. MO, and was a trustee with the Baptist Missionary Association Theological Seminary, Jacksonville, TX for over 25 years. He was also an active member of Gideons International until his health prevented his active participation.

Jim retired from the Special Products Engineering Department of Eagle Picher, Joplin, MO in April, 2000 where he worked from November, 1956 which resulted in many strong and lasting friendships.

Funeral services wereat 10:00 am, Saturday, February 3, 2007 at First Baptist Church, Galena, KS. Rev. Charles Idleman, and Rev. Paul Mooney will officiate. Roy Derfelt was the eulogist.

Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, KS

The family received friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Friday, Feb 2, at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Galena, KS or Gideons International.
