They farmed in the Township of Adrian, Monroe Co., with their only son John. Dean loved the country life that they had made for themselves, he was a true farmer. He enjoy being on the land, in the pastures or in the woods of the farm, raising the animals and crops was living to him. Dean was a faithful member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church his whole life. He also was a lifelong woodworker, journeyman carpenter, cabinet builder and hobbyist. He was an aviation enthusiast and played the harmonica. Serving in the Army during World War II in Britain, France, Belgium and Germany. He was a member of Grassman-Sowle-Larsen-Senz American Legion Post #201 for 41-year.
He is survived by his son John & (Julie) Acker of Tomah; two nieces, Nancy Kaiser and Marie Acker-Kolpch, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Leila on March 11, 2003.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 9, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, 525 Superior Ave., Tomah. Pastor Donald R. Buch officiated. Burial was at Mount Vernon Cemetery in the Township of Tomah with military honors by Grassman-Sowle-Larsen-Senz American Legion Post #201. Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, Tomah, assisted the family with arrangements.
The family of Dean Acker thanked the staff of the Tomah VA Medical Center, Building 402 for taking good care of Dean.
