Mary Elizabeth Bennett, 87, of Newton passed away at 12:10 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2008, at her daughter's home.
Funeral Mass celebrating Mary's life was at 10 a.m. today at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Newton, with Father Al Kemme officiating. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Newton. Visitation was Monday at Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home, Newton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Mary was born Dec. 7, 1920, in Newton, the daughter of Ed and Ruth (Shelly) Rentz. She married Richard Floyd Bennett Nov. 12, 1938, in Princeton, Ind.
Mary was a homemaker and member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Newton. She also was a member of Y Ladies in Hammond, Ind., Royal Neighbors and Newton VFW ladies Auxiliary.
Mary is survived by her husband of 69 years, Richard Floyd Bennett of Newton; three children, Richard "Eddie" (wife, Janine) Bennett of Las Vegas, Robbie (wife, Debbie) Bennett of Newton and Rene Bennett of Newton; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Leroy "Gene" (wife, Fran) Rentz of Brownsville, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ed, Homer and George Rentz; and sisters, Clara Fear, Agnes Chapman and Anna Olinger.
