In the 1860s, Mathew and Marion went to Prince Edward Island followed by two of Mathew's sisters married to Horn men. He ran a livery that housed the post office at Gavin's Corners in Bloomfield. They remained in PEI until about 1881 when they removed to North Dakota where Mathew and his eldest sons and daughters acquired land. The 1892 newspaper report of Mathew's death states that he died of a stroke at his store west of Tyner. Marion's death followed in 1894, and in the following years, their children migrated to various parts of the USA and Canada.
