Obituary for James E. "Calvin" Carter:

Mr. James E. Carter, 84, of Tahoe Drive, Hartwell, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Wellstar Kennestone in Marietta, GA.

Born on June 19, 1939 in Toccoa, GA, he was the son of the late Hubert Carter and Sarah Moore Carter. Mr. Carter was a self-employed builder and developer who owned James E. Carter Contractors for more than 30 years, a member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, and a master Mason at the Meyerhardt Lodge No. 314 in Kennesaw, GA.

Survivors include his daughter: Debra Dianne Carter of Marietta, GA; and one grandchild: Sydney Carter, married to Patrick Doyle, both of Atlanta. Mr. Carter is preceded in death by his parents; and his wife: Helen Jo Teague Carter.

The family will receive friends Tuesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Other times the family will be at the home.

Funeral services for Mr. James Carter will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Jason Webb officiating. Burial will be on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Kennesaw Memorial Park. The cemetery is located at 1306 Whitlock Ave. SW, Marietta, GA 30064.

Flowers are optional, and memorials may be made to the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 2973 Mt. Olivet Rd, Hartwell, GA 30643.

The Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell is in charge of all arrangements.
