Born and raised in Brooklyn. Only one sibling- Burton who was 5 years younger.
Graduated Brooklyn's Boys High School at 17. Enlisted in the Army Air Corp. but due to loss of hearing in one ear, from a childhood illness, he stayed stateside, at Fort Dix , NJ. After the war he married Amelia Balzano and they went on to have 7 children, with a son dying before he was 2 yrs.
