Virginia Dell Dickey Hicks, the daughter of Reatha Mae (Dickey) McFadden, John Henry McFadden and Gilbert Fulwood was born in Lynchburg, SC on December 28, 1943. She transitioned from this life on December 14, 2023 in Baltimore, MD.

Virginia was educated in the South Carolina public school system. She graduated from Eastern High School in 1964. It was there where she was a point guard on the school's varsity basketball team.

Virginia moved to Baltimore right after graduating high school. She met and married the late Nathan Wayman Hicks on September 25, 1969. From this union, two children were born: Stacey and Horatio. She also became a very proud grandmother and great-grandmother.

Virginia joined Victory Chapel Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Bishop Jesse Fliggins in the mid-1970's serving as the Church Secretary. In the mid-1980's, she joined St. John's Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Gregory Turner. In 1997, she became a founding member of the New Freedom Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Andrea Howard and Bishop Ronald Howard. She was the Chairperson of the Building Fund and the Food and Clothing Ministries. She faithfully fulfilled her duties until her health prevented her from continuing. Virginia loved the Lord. Even when she was unable to attend church in person, she made sure she stayed connected through social media and bible study conference calls.

Virginia held many positions but her love for children led her to become a day care teacher at the Children's Garden Day Nursery in 1993 where she taught for several years.

Cooking was Virginia's passion, and it was reflected in whatever she prepared. Family, friends, and church family were often treated to a plethora of southern cooking that not only tasted amazing but made you feel good on the inside. Food was a part of her ministry. Virginia loved having family game night so she could show off her expert skill with checkers. She loved to study her bible, play Sudoku and do crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed watching her favorite tv shows such as CSI Miami, American Ninja and the Hallmark Channel.

Virginia was a devoted mother and friend. There was nothing that she wouldn't do for anyone that needed her. She was a mother figure to many and would share her wisdom with those who seek it.

Virginia leaves to cherish her loving memories, her daughter, Stacey Hicks-Johnson (Steven), son Horatio Hicks; stepdaughter, Wanda Hicks; sisters, Betty Wilson, Patricia White, Linda Herion, Cynthia Capers (David), Jenepher Wilson and Zonda Holloway (David); brothers, Odell McFadden, Eddie Fulwood, and Rev. George Fulwood; in-laws, Rosa and David Hemingway, Doris Lucas, Melba and Henry Wilson, and Gus and Apinya Hicks; grandchildren, Brandon Greene, Aaliyah Chambers, Steven Johnson, Tarrance Vincent, Ashleigh Johnson, Malcolm Johnson and Melissa Cabrera; great-grandchildren, Qwondell Vincent, Emyias Vincent and Empryss Vincent and a host of special nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins and close friends.
