ALVIN AARON ROOT BEAVER Funeral services for lifelong Towaoc resident, Alvin Aaron Root Beaver will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 28 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Towaoc Cemetery. Alvin was born October 23, 1948 in Pleasant View, Colo. the son of Thomas House Sr. and Jessie Root. He passed away January 2, 2008 at the age of 59 in rural Cortez. A talented artist, Alvin was especially good at drawings and making eagle feather fans. Alvin began dancing at a young age and he Sun Danced more than 40 times. He was also a Southern Fancy Dancer at many Pow Wows. He was a member of the Native American Church and was a Pipe Carrier for Sweat Lodge. Surviving Alvin are his mother, Jessie House of Towaoc; his father, Thomas House Sr. of Towaoc; his brothers and sisters, Ernest House Sr. and wife, Lorraine of McElmo, Colo., Emily Whiteman and husband, Darwin, Loma House, Beverly House, Jack House and wife, Carol, Lorna House, Blair House Sr. and wife, Darlene, Thomas House Jr., all of Towaoc, Selwyn Whiteskunk of Dolores, Kevin House and wife, Charlotte, Radona Tom, Lorraine House, Alfred Wall Jr., Douglas Wall, and Daniel Lehi all of Towaoc; aunt, Dorothy Ketchum of Towaoc; cousins, Wilbert Root Sr., Pearl Root Lanier of Towaoc, Genevieve Thompson of Ignacio, and Virginia Root of North Dakota; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and family of the Southern Ute and Northern Ute Tribes. Alvin was preceded in death by his grandfather, Tom Root Sr.; and grandmother, Alberta Bluebird Deer.
