Early famous international stage actress and teacher known by her stage name "Villa Knox." According to her death certificate, she was taken to the Los Angeles County Crematory. It is believed that her ashes are interred in the cemetery. Daughter of Methodist minister Rev. William H. Bates of Alabama (1821-1905) and Cordelia Josephine Burts of Tennessee (1836-1915), she spent a lot of her childhood in Knoxville, Tennessee, which is where she got her stage name. She was a member of the popular Mozart Club in Knoxville.
