John Franklin Chafin, age 87, died Saturday, January 6, 2024 at his residence in Tallahassee, Florida.

John was born in Marianna, FL on April 24th, 1936. He served in the United States Army and graduated
from Chipola Junior College, Florida State University and Florida A&M University. He served as Leon
County Tax Collector for 20 years. John attended First Baptist Church for 55 years and served as a deacon. He was a member of many civic and professional organizations, an active volunteer, referee, fisherman, hunter and BBQ pit master. Most importantly John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

John was preceded in death by his parents, William Franklin Chafin and Johnnie Wynell Singletary
Chafin, brothers Howard Chafin, William H. Chafin, James Robert Chafin, sister Margaret Chafin
Boone, and stepmother Marie Chafin.

He is survived by his wife, Paula Butler Chafin; son Paul F. Chafin and wife Mary; daughters Kathy
Chafin Coggins and husband Bryan, Melanie Chafin Bradle and husband Chris.; sisters, Sarah Wright
and husband Ronnie, Elsie Myrick and Brenda Peters; six grandchildren Waylon Coggins, Paul Chafin,
John Chafin, Keely Bradle, Cheyenne Coggins and Brax Bradle; numerous nieces, nephews and brother in law Ray Butler.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Thursday, January 11th, 2024 at First Baptist Church in Tallahassee.
