Donald Herbert Bancroft, 95, Anderson, passed away on Jan. 5, 2024, at Primrose Retirement Community in Anderson. He was a life long resident of Anderson.
He attended Washington Grade and Junior High Schools and graduated from Anderson High School in 1946. Donald then went on earn a bachelor of science degree from Ball State University.
He served in the United States Army in a Heavy Mortar Company during the Korean War in 1951 and 1952, where he advanced in grade to Staff Sergeant.
Donald was employed at the Allison Division of General Motors as a Senior Systems Analyst, retiring in 1967, to begin a 30-year career as a real estate broker, doing business as Don Bancroft, Realtor. During this period, he specialized in investment and commercial real estate and was active in several partnerships.
His local civic involvement included Central Christian Church, where he was baptized in 1936 and served on the staff, as a deacon, elder, and Administrative Board Chairman in 2000. In 2001, the Christian Church Foundation named him a member of the Fiers-Brown Society, and in 2012, was named Elder Emeritus of Central Christian Church. He was a member of the Anderson YMCA from 1935, where he served as President of the Y-Men's Club, Board Member, Chairman of the Building Committee, and Board Member Emeritus. Donald was a 50-year member of the Anderson Kiwanis Club and served as president in 1989. He was a life member of Mount Moriah Masonic Lodge #77, F. & A. M., life member of the Grover T. Oliver VFW Post #266, where he served as trustee, life member of DAV and the American Legion Post #127, and member of the Anderson Board of REALTORS until retiring in 1999.
He is survived by two nieces and a nephew in the Indianapolis area, Mark (Lynnete) Kaufman, Tracy (James) Luke, and Barri (Robert) Hicks.
His parents, Myrtle Pauline (Wilson) Bancroft and Herbert Nelson Bancroft, and sister, Jean (Bancroft) Kaufman preceded him in death.
A private graveside service will take place at East Maplewood Cemetery.
