Wednesday, June 15th, 1938 - Saturday, January 6th, 2024
Lois Marie Stephens, age 85, passed away peacefully at her home on January 6, 2024. Born on June 15, 1938 in Brown County, Indiana. Lois was the daughter of the late Harley and Rachel (Deckard) Sturgeon.
Lois married the love of her life, John Stephens on February 15, 1957. They were married for a wonderful 66 years and leave a legacy of 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
She retired as the Monroe County Deputy Clerk - but loved her role as a wife and a homemaker above all. She always made sure her family was well cared for and loved. You could always count on her to provide a smile, a hug, and the most delicious home cooked meals with her famous sweet tea. "It's nothing fancy." Lois also enjoyed cake decorating and spending time in the mountains of Tennessee. Lois' favorite time of the year was Christmas, and if she could have it her way, every day would be Christmas day.
She loved her family fiercely and her faith was unwavering. She was a devout member of Howe Street Pentacostal Church.
Lois is survived by her husband of 66 years, John Stephens; children, John Michael Stephens (Roseann Seals), Donna (Richard) Justis, Lisa Stephens, Theresa (Jeff) Stewart, and Dan Stephens; grandchildren, December (Josh) Portage, Rachel (Neal) Strange, John (Brittany) Justis, Stephen, Benjamin, and Amanda Wilcoxon, Shelby (Clayton) Sailors, McKenzie and Sydney Stewart, and Jamie (Bryan) Wells; great-grandchildren, Willow, Janie, and Madison Porter, Haley, Hannah, and John Fitzgerald Justis, Henry and Olivia Strange, Jackson and Ozzie Wilcoxon, Maren Sailors, and Sophie Wells; and her furry companion Abby.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charles, Jimmy, and Cecil Sturgeon; and sisters, Dorothy Ruble-Walker, and Mary Doris Bay; and her beloved K-9 companion, Mitzi.
