James Lester, 72, of Granville, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Allure, of Peru.

Funeral services for Jim will begin at 10:30 AM, Thursday, January 18th, at the Barto Funeral Home, in Spring Valley, with Rev. Gregory Jarzombek, O. S. B., officiating. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation for Jim will be held Wednesday, January 17th, at the Barto Funeral Home, from 4:00 PM until 6:30 PM, as well as a half hour before funeral services on Thursday morning.

James was born on October 26, 1951, in Spring Valley, to Reuban and Alma (Carr) Lester. He married Bonnie Kay Garland ,at St. Patrick Catholic Church, in Hennepin, in 1992.

Jim was an operating engineer at Washington Mills, in Hennepin, for many years before retiring. He was a member of the Granville Masons, Cursillo, and served as a fireman for 27 years with the Hennepin Fire Department. Jim had a generous heart and was always willing to help someone out. He loved his family more than life itself and made many sacrifices for them.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his daughters, Krista (Quincy) Buffington, Katie Lester, Ramey (Todd) Cook, and Robin (Gil) Guerrero, and his son, Brian (Mandy) Lester. He adored his grandchildren, Faith (Jacob) Siefers, Cheliz and Adan Guerrero, Zoe and Mason Burash, Noah, Peony, and Juniper Lester, Carter and Kenna Lester, and his two special great-grandsons, Emmett James and Nixon Michael, as well as his favorite buddy, Lucky the Cat. Also surviving, are his sister, Joanne (Jim) Hardmeier, his brother, Jerry (Barb) Lester, and many nieces and nephews.

Jim had a special bond with his son-in-law, Gil, and called him his "right hand man."

He was preceded in death by his parents.
