Nine men were killed, and 12 others injured when the flat-bed truck they were riding in struck a parked tractor trailer on Interstate 55 early morning, Wednesday, August 1, 1973. That accident occurred about 8 miles south of Sikeston, Missouri. There were at least 52 migrant laborers on the flat-bed truck and it was later found that 47 of the men may have been in the U.S. illegally.
