Elizabeth Jo. Allums Brown, 5-14-1942 - 04-25-2023

Elizabeth Jo Allums Brown, fondly known as Libby, was born on May 14, 1942 in Mobile, Alabama. She was the firstborn and the only daughter born to Jamie Talton Allums and Marguerite Parker Allums.

Libby spent many of her childhood days at her grandparents' (Jim and Lena Allums) home in Leakesville, Mississippi. The sweet memories she had of those carefree times are shared with her brother Larry. They often traipsed through woods and streams to uncover treasures that would become fond recollections throughout her days. There was Mr. and Mrs. Fence that they climbed over, and Mr. Elephant that was a low-lying limb on a big tree that they played upon. She had two other brothers that followed behind Larry; Mike and Jerry. She loved all of her brothers. At almost 11 years old when the youngest brother Jerry came along, her mother let her name him and she claimed him as her own.

She graduated from Semmes High School alongside her best friend, Evon Prentiss Carpenter. Oh the stories she would tell about their adventures. As teenagers, they would often catch a bus into downtown Mobile and spend the day. There wasn't an Elvis movie that came out that they didn't see, and most of them were viewed multiple times. As they entered adulthood, their love of Elvis did not diminish, When Elvis had concerts in Mobile, Libby and Evon were there along with their families. Everlasting memories were made.

Right after high-school graduation, Libby met the love of her life, James F. Brown, Jr., or Jimmie as he was known to all. Libby attended a Sunday School party at the home of Jimmie's sister, Beverly. She did not want to go to the church function, but her mother insisted. When Jimmie spotted her for the first time at that party, he told his best friend, "That's the girl I'm going to marry". He was true to his word. They were married three months after their first date, and spent over 60 years together. They had two children, a daughter and son. They raised their children to love the Andy Griffith Show and the Lord. Later in life, when Jimmie suffered health issues, Libby devoted over 10 years to taking care of him until he passed away on January 27, 2021 at the age of 82. It was a true love story witnessed by all who knew them.

On April 25, 2023 Libby was welcomed into her eternal home. Oh, what a rejoicing took place in heaven on that day! Assured of her salvation and the promise given to us by our heavenly Father, her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now in the presence of our Savior and with those whom she loved so dearly who were waiting for her at Heaven's gate. In recent years when she became weaker, she would often say that she wanted to "just be able to run". Isaiah 35:6 promises that now she is "leaping like a deer". What a sight that must be.

Until we see her again, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her wit is one of the things we will miss the most. Cherishing her memory are her children, Sandy (Amelia) Brown of Saraland, AL and Jamey (Jennifer) Brown of Eight Mile, AL; her grandchildren, Hunter Brown, USAF, and Dalton Brown of Eight Mile, AL; her brothers Larry Allums of Dallas, TX and Jerry (Belinda) Allums of Hawkinsville, GA and her sister-in-law, Beverly Brown Waltman of Pensacola, FL; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Honoring her request, there will be no public service. The family will gather at a private graveside service at a later date in her beloved Leakesville, MS.
