ELOY, AZ – Four people died early Sunday morning, and one person is in critical condition after a tragic hot-air balloon crash just north of Eloy in Arizona. The Eloy Police Department said in a Facebook post that the crash happened around 7:50 a.m. near Sunshine Boulevard and Hanna Road.

What led to the crash is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board and FAA. The NTSB says that the crash happened of a Cameron Balloon A160 hot air balloon, which hit the desert terrain after a problem with the aircraft's envelope or balloon.

Bartrom's mother, Jennifer Hubartt, said while her daughter did not jump, she died doing what she loved. Katie Bartrom leaves behind her mother and stepfather as well as a twin sister and a younger brother and sister. In the wake of the devastating incident, several people took to social media to pay tribute to the late nurse.

Born on December 30, 1995, in Ft. Wayne, IN, the daughter of Jeremy and Jennifer (Bartrom) Hubartt. She graduated from Huntington North High School with the Class of 2014 and received her associate degree in nursing from Ivy Tech College of Ft. Wayne. Katie started working at the hospital in 2018 as a patient care technician (PCT) while obtaining her degree. She was dedicated and proud to be a registered nurse for Lutheran Hospital.

Kaite was a true adventurer at heart. She was a thrill seeker, Katie loved skydiving and roller coasters. She also enjoyed travelling to new places, going to concerts, and getting spontaneous tattoos with friends. Kaite was strong, loyal, and very determined to make a difference in the world. Her selfless heart and passion to take care of others was endless. She adored all creatures and treasured her unfailing bond with cats and dogs. Kaite's joyfulness and bright personality allowed her to love unconditionally. Her outgoing spirit and smile will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and those she met along the way.

Survived by her loving family; Mother, Jennifer L. (Jeremy) Hubartt of Andrews, IN; Twin Sister, Kelsie Bartrom of Ft. Wayne, IN; Sister, Haylie Nicole Overholser of Tullahoma, TN; Brother, Gavin Hubartt of Andrews, IN; Grandparents, Ruth Mary Bartrom of Huntington, IN, Danny and Cindy Hubartt of Huntington, IN; and her beloved cat, Koba. She is preceded in death by her Grandfather, Robert Reagan Bartrom.
