Crashed near Mosigkau, 7km SW of Dessau, Germany, about 200m from the crash location of 447. Wounded, he was captured and brought to hospital where he died 3 days later. Died of Wounds (DOW) as a prisoner of War (POW) (American Air Museum, Duxford)

While serving on his eighteenth mission as a pilot on a bomber over his target at Dassau, Germany, he was shot down by anti aircraft fire, receiving mortal wounds in action, from which wounds he died three days later in a prisoner of war hospital.
