He was loved by parents and children alike, as parents knew they could send their kids to the beach and Joe would be there to watch over them.
The City of Vancouver held a Public funeral for him on February 4, 1922. A fountain was erected near the site of his home, from funds, that for the most part were donated from the Children of the City. On the Fountain is Joe's face with 3 little children splashing in the water, with the plaque saying "Little Children loved Him."
He has a library that is named after him which is located in the West End Community Center on Denman Street.
Would love to see him listed among the famous graves of Mountain View.
