George Ponsonby was a British lawyer and Whig politician. He served as Lord Chancellor of Ireland from 1806 to 1807 in the Ministry of All the Talents. Ponsonby had been selected as the first recognised leader of the opposition, rather than leader of an opposition, when the two leading Whig peers Lord Grenville and Earl Grey, proposed him to Whig MPs.

The remains of the Right Hon. Geo. Ponsonby were removed yesterday morning, at six o'clock, from his house in Curzon-street, May-fair, in a private manner for interment, in the vault at Kensington, where the remains of the late Lord Ponsonby are deposited —A few of the deceased's particular friends attended the funeral ; among them was the Earl of Shannon, the. The remains of the Right Hon, Geo. Ponsonby were removed on Saturday morning, at six o'clock, from his house in Curzon -street, May-fair, in a private manner, for interment in the vault at Kensington, where the remains of his brother, the late Lord Ponsonby, are deposited. A few of the deceased's relatives and particular friends attended the funeral ; among them were, the Earl of Shannon, the Earl of Bessborough, Lord H. Cavendish, &c.
