Barbara began her working career as a C & P Telephone Operator in Northern Virginia where she also started her family. She moved back to Hinton where the family business started, with former husband, Paul, Sr.
It was 1965, and Twin State Salon Supply continues to grow after almost 60 years and employs over 80 employees from Summers County and five surrounding states. Paul, Sr. retired in 1995 and their sons were more than happy when Barbara stayed on to work with the office staff to assist as needed. She loved to visit the various departments to talk and truly listen to co-workers. Her devotion to the business, and her sons, was admired as she never officially retired because of her love for her Twin State family. As her health deteriorated over the last 2 years she was missed very much.
Barbara was a member of the class of 1956 at Hinton High School. Her classmates remained in close contact with each other and were recognized for their class reunions' frequency, attendance and years sustained. She was part of a Hinton planning group that made the reunions special, and the group worked diligently to remain bonded and close to life-long friends.
As an involved community minded person, Barbara was a member of many groups and organizations. She served many years on the Board of Directors for Hospice of Southern WV, Inc. She was awarded the title of Grand Marshal for the WV Water Festival Parade in 2016 because of her efforts to support the festival over many years. She was a member of the Bellpoint Bunco Babes and a former member of the Wednesday Club, Woman's Club and Business and Professional Women.
Barbara was a decades long member of the Mt. Pisgah Methodist Church and sang in the choir.
As an excellent cook, her claim to fame was her creamy banana pudding and family favorite, potato salad.
Left to treasure her memory are her two sons, Paul (Paula) Wykle of Beckley, WV, and Keith (Heather) Wykle of Jumping Branch, WV, granddaughter, Makayla Wykle Young (Casey), great grandson, Landon Young of Morgantown, WV, grandson, Brandon (Brandy) Tickle of Pulaski, VA, and Leroy Keaton, brother of Charlottesville, VA. Barbara is preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis Keaton Gill, granddaughter, Delaney Wykle and special friend, Sam Crook.
Visitation is on Friday, January 26 from 12 pm until 2 pm at Pivont Funeral Home in Hinton, WV followed by her service at 2 pm with Pastor Eugene Fullen officiating. Official burial is at Restwood Memorial Garden in Madams Creek, WV immediately following the service.
The family requests that gifts of sympathy be donated to Hospice of Southern WV (454 Cranberry Dr. Beckley, WV) or the Summers County Humane Society (ACWP-WV.ORG) for an online donation.
