John Mathew Jost Jr., of San Angelo, Texas, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024, at Shannon Medical Center, surrounded by his family, at the age of 82. He was born June 3, 1941, to John Michael Jost and Gertrude Marie Staudt Jost in San Angelo, Texas.

He graduated from San Angelo High School in 1960. He served on the Parish Council in Wall, Texas. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a volunteer at the Wall Fire Department. He worked at Terrell Manufacturing for several years and transitioned into farming and ranching. He enjoyed his coffee club at McDonalds and also delivered Meals for the Elderly with his friends Bill Roberts and Domingo Quintela, Jr. He enjoyed hunting with his brothers-in-law. He loved going to the stock shows and rodeos and helping his kids with their show pigs. He loved to travel to Winstar Casino with his wife Gretchlen, but most of all, the love he had for his kids was never ending. He enjoyed watching his grandkids play football, basketball and t-ball. One thing he never forgot was making sure his family always received a personalized birthday card.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Gretchlen Jost, of San Angelo, Texas; son Paul Jost and wife Elizabeth, of San Angelo; son Scott Jost, of San Angelo; daughter Dana McCollough and fiancé Steve Pagan, of San Angelo; son Randy Jost and wife Heather, of LaVernia; son Brandon Jost and wife Savanah, of San Angelo; son Garrett Jost and wife Lindsey of San Angelo; step daughter-in-law Michele Sanders Junginger. He is survived by 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Julia Ann McNamara and husband Mike; sister Wilma Jean Jost; sister Elizabeth Gilbert; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 30 years, Mercedes Ann Schwartz Jost; stepson Dedrick Junginger; sister Agnes Hillard and husband Harmon; brother Emil Jost and wife Dorothy; brothers-in-law Harvey Gilbert and Donald Simmons; and 6 half brothers and sisters.

A special thank you to all the staff on 4 North at Shannon Medical Center, especially David Padilla, RN; Sabrina Meares, RN; Angela, RN; MJ, PCT; Julia, PCT; Rae Lynn, Respiratory Therapist, Dr. S. Burkes, Dr. Milo Anderson, Dr. K. Perrett, Dr. R. Haddad.

The Rosary vigil will be 7:00 P.M., Friday, January 26, 2024, at Holy Angels Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Holy Angels Catholic Church with the Very Rev. Santiago Udayar as Celebrant. The burial will follow at St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery in Wall, TX.

Pallbearers for the service will be Will Jost, Collin Jost, Zachary McCollough, Hayden Jost, Ronnie Simmons, and Courtney Strube.

Honorary pallbearers for the service will be Bill Roberts, Tommy Wood, Jerry Jost, Paul Wayne English, Terry Gilbert, Greg Gilbert, Steve Simmons, Stetson Jost, Gary Jost, Tony Jost Jeffery Jost, Burnell Jost, David Hilliard, Daryl Schniers, Doyle Schniers, Jimmy Strube and Billy Ray Schwartz.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Meals for the Elderly or a favorite charity of your choosing.
