Mayor of Pahokee Florida for 22 years.

Father: Nobel George Padgett
---------------------
Duncan Padgett, the mayor of Pahokee for the past 25 years, died Friday night of a heart attack.
"This town has been his life," said Frankie Padgett, who is married to Mr. Padgett's oldest son, Donald. "He gave his life to this town. If he had to die, I'm just glad he got back to Pahokee."
Earlier Friday, Mr. Padgett and his wife of 60 years, Lillian, had been released from John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Atlantis after recovering from injuries they received in an automobile accident on May 22.

Mr. Padgett began to feel uncomfortable and took some medication on Friday afternoon, said his daughter-in-law, who along with other family members were at Mr. Padgett's home to welcome him and his wife back from the hospital.
Later in the evening, he suffered a cardiac arrest. Efforts by the paramedics to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

Born in Hallandale in 1905, Mr. Padgett would have been 81 on June 30. He moved to Pahokee in 1914, where he worked as a farmer before becoming involved in politics.
On May 6, he was elected mayor of the town of 6,500 for his 13th two-year term.
"He resigned (from politics) after 20 years," said Frankie Padgett. "But the man elected to take his place wasn't able to fill out his term, so he came back and finished it out. He enjoyed it so much he decided to get back into it. He really never left (politics)."
"This is a big loss to the city," said Pahokee City Council member Curtis Miners, who had known Padgett for 40 years. "It's hard to describe what a wonderful person he was. Everybody is still in shock. He's going to be missed."
Mr. Padgett is survived by his wife, three sons, a daughter, 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Pahokee. -South Florida Sun-Sentinel (Fort Lauderdale, FL) - Sunday, June 1, 1986
