Marilyn Jean (Moe) Byron, 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 2, 2023, at home in Chula Vista CA. She was born August 13, 1929, in Chicago IL to Henry and Mary Moe and had a younger sister Peggy (Margaret). The Moe family lived in Austin MN until Marilyn's early teens, and then moved to Chula Vista, much to Marilyn's delight.

Marilyn graduated from Sweetwater High School, attended San Diego State College, and completed Officer's Candidate School. She was commissioned in the US Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant and was stationed in Germany, where she met her future husband Milton (Milt) Byron, a US Air Force fighter pilot. Marilyn and Milt were married and spent two years at Landstuhl Air Force Base in Germany.

Marilyn retired from the military upon their return to the States, but Milt stayed on as a Lt. Colonel piloting KC135 air refueling tankers for the Strategic Air Command. Marilyn and Milt were stationed at Air Force Bases in Massachusetts, Long Island, Maine, and California, where their daughters were born.

In the early 1970's Milt retired from the USAF and the family moved to Chula Vista. Milt attended law school in San Diego and became an attorney in private practice. Marilyn took many college classes at this time to expand her knowledge of her avocations: anthropology, archaeology, and birding.

Marilyn and Milt enjoyed traveling and loved skiing with their grown daughters and their families in California and Utah. Marilyn was also an avid tennis player and enjoyed weekly tennis games with friends until just a few years ago. In their retirement, Marilyn and Milt enjoyed traveling for snow skiing. They also enjoyed sailing and scuba diving in the Caribbean with a group of friends that dated back to Sweetwater High School days.

Sadly, Milt passed away in 1994, but Marilyn continued to travel visiting her daughters' families and her many grandchildren and taking guided excursions with old friends to Mexico, Canada, Egypt, Myanmar, Thailand, Romania, New Zealand, Africa, Greece, Turkey, Japan, and Laos.

Marilyn is survived by her daughters, grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Marilyn was predeceased by her husband Milton, her parents Mary and Henry Moe, her sister Peggy, and her son-in-law Lonnie O'Brien.

In a family ceremony, Marilyn's ashes will be placed with military honors in Milt and Marilyn's columbarium niche at the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Point Loma, CA.
