After Clayton passed in 1989, she married Bromer Leonard Johnson in 1993 until his death in 2005.

Before retiring in 1999, she was a rural mail carrier for the U. S. Postal Service in Gray and Haddock. She also helped her husband, Clayton run the King's Gulf Service Station and King's Shoe Repair Shop in Monticello; and was a former bus driver and lunchroom cook for the Monticello High School.
She was a member of the Older American Senior Citizens Center, 4-H Club, a Girl Scout Leader, a Sunday school teacher, the Back Porch Gang, and women's outreach at Hillsboro Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by baby boy King and daughter, Martha Inalee King Brinson; and brothers, Dorsey Lynn Bennett and Delbert Wade Bennett.
