In Heidelberg on 21 February 1595 John George married for a second time to Dorothea (b. Kaiserslautern, 6 January 1581 – d. Sandersleben, 18 September 1631), the only surviving child of John Casimir of Palatine Simmern third son of Frederick III, Elector Palatine and Elizabeth daughter of Elector August of Saxony.
Under her influence, her husband openly converted to Calvinism in 1596. After his death, she retired to her widow seat Sandersleben Castle.
She was a member of the Virtuous Society under the nickname die Gastfreie ("the Hospitable").
Dorothea died in Sandersleben, aged 50, and was buried in the Marienkirche in Dessau. Her two eldest sons added a tomb stone to her grave in 1631.. which does not survive .
