Born in Chester PA, and an all-around athlete, Abe graduated from Chester High School, where he made All-State full back in football, and also attended Allentown Prep, where he also played fullback. Abe attended Temple University, where he played football, and its team was considered one of the strongest in the country. Also, while attending Temple, Abe was on the boxing team. He later became inducted in the Delaware County Football Hall of Fame.
Abe also played for the first pro-football team in Philadelphia, later known as the Philadelphia Eagles.
He was a self-employed manufacturers representative for nearly 20 years in Chester before his retirement. Abe also worked at the Vineland Senior Center in the 1980s and '90s on the Green Thumb program.
Abe followed all sports, enjoyed playing bridge, reading, loved being with his family, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Predeceased by his wife, Irene (Goodman) Soifer, in 1984; his parents; and his brothers, Joe North, Alex North, and Harry North, Abe was survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Mark & Toby Soifer of Vineland and Jesse & Coni Soifer of Philadelphia; grandchildren, Rebecca, David, Jessica and Rachel; great-grandchildren, John, Talia, Jacob, Ian, Joie, Julia, Rena, and Sarah; and many nieces and nephews.
