Jackie Dale Bishop,91 of Creal Springs, IL passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at 7:50 am on October 7,2023 at his home.

He was born on June 17, 1932, in Johnston City, IL to Olen Sr. and Florence Myrtle (Brown) Bishop.

Jack married Betty Jean Blackwell on July 3, 1960. Together they had five children. They were happily married for 63 years.

Jack served in the United States Navy from 1950-1954 on the USS Curtis.

He worked on the Illinois Postal Central Train from 1957-1967. Jack then transferred to Carbondale United States Postal Service, where he worked until his retirement in November 1998.

He enjoyed woodworking and loved making covered wagons, cabins, birdhouses, trucks, etc. Jack loved spending time with his family.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; Olen Sr. and Florence Myrtle (Brown) Bishop; mother and father-in-law, Lewis and Eunice Blackwell, brothers; Donald (Millie) Bishop, Olen Jr. (Metta) Bishop, Loren (Georgegina) Bishop; sisters, Leota (Tiny)(Chuck) McDonald, Vernettta (Calvin) Bruce, Laverna (Pete) Ruzich, Bonnie (Carl) Ezell, Marcella Bishop and son-in-law, Jerome (Jerry) Lenon.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Cosby-Sloan Funeral Home in Creal Springs, IL at 1:00pm with visitation from 12:00pm until funeral hour. Buriel to follow in Tanner Cemetery with Bro. Eddie Donelson officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from 5-8 pm at Cosby- Sloan Funeral Home. A special thank you to Hospice of Southern Illinois. For those who prefer, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Cosby-Sloan Funeral Home of Creal Springs in charge of arrangements.
