DODGE CITY – James "Jim" Sammons, 80 headed to heaven on February 4, 2024 and as you all know it was with engines roaring and cars circling the track. His years of battling COPD behind him, he is now free to breathe the fresh air and feel the wind in his face.

In addition to being a proud Army veteran serving in Vietnam and the Army Reserves, he owned and operated Sammons Auto Repair in Dodge City, Kansas for many years and was known as a top diagnostician and engine builder. He took great pride and satisfaction with the cars he helped sponsor and racers he supported, giving them the best shot he could to take the flag and a spot in the winner's circle.

Jim is survived by his wife, Kathy Runquist-Sammons of the home; son, Justin (Darla) of Lincoln, NE; stepsons, Mike Runquist (Reiko) of Palm Springs, CA, Rob Runquist of Wichita, KS and Chris Runquist (Rebecca) of Prairie Village, KS; sisters, Glenna Root of Morro Bay, CA and Darla Sammons of Los Osos, CA; in addition to many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
