Albert Robson DOE, son of Albert Robson and Florence Emily (Withers) Doe, was born in London, England on October 19, 1884.

He worked aboard the RMS Empress of Japan as the “Master-at-Arms”, as well as on the RMS Empress of India. Both ships were owned by the Canadian Pacific Railway, and plied the waters between the Pacific Coast and the East Coast of Asia (Hong Kong) delivering mail. The Master-at-Arms is the law enforcement equivalent while at sea.

In 1908, Albert joined Vancouver Fire Department, working for about 1 year.
He listed his occupation on application forms as “painter & paperhanger”.

He was sworn in as a Vancouver Police Constable on January 5, 1914 and attained the rank of Detective in 1935. He retired in October 1945.

As a young Constable, Albert enlisted in the Great War, serving overseas in England and France, in the 12th Canadian Engineers. Albert quickly moved up the ranks taking on the Company Quartermaster Sergeant role in 1916 and the Company Sergeant Major later that year. In 1918, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. In 1919 he returned to Canada and to his career in policing.

Albert married Sophia Patterson on October 31, 1914 in Vancouver; they had a son William Albert Doe, born while his dad was overseas.

Albert passed on February 2 1969 in his 85th year. Survived by his wife, Sophia; 2 sons, Dr. W.A. Doe (Vancouver) and George R. Doe (Salmon Arm), one daughter Mrs Dorene McDaniell (Harry); 3 grandsons and 2 granddaughters.
