During World War 11, Mr. Irvin serviced aboard the USS Melvin. He fought in the battle of Okinawa.
While stationed in Bremerton he met a beautiful red head, Peggy Kanouse. They marrid in 1948 and were married for 56 years.
Mr. Irvin was employed by the Bremerton Fire Department from 1951 until his retirement as a lieutenant in 1977. He also worked as a logger, furniture packer and fuel oil truck driver.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreigh Wars, the Fleet Reserve Association, the Elks, the Eagle and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his son, Fred "Buz" Martz, and his daughter, Sharee Frye. He is survived by his wife, Peggy; a son, Richard Irvin of Burley;a daughter, Jonnie Streutker and her husband Tim, of Port Orchard/ a sister, Iona Horrighs of Springfield; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
