Obituary: Mabel Ann Ness, age 98 of Baker passed away Wednesday November 20, 1985 at the Fallon Memorial Hospital in Baker following a long illness. She was born January 25, 1887, at Mankato, Minnesota, the daughter of Fred and Hapalona Draper. She grew up and received her education at Grogan and Madella, Minnesota. In 1913 she came to Baker. On April 1, 1914 she was married to Oscar Ness at Baker. They farmed five miles west of Baker for 20 years. In 1934 they moved to Baker. In 1942 they moved to Rapid City where Oscar was a carpenter. In 1974 he retired and they moved back to Baker included her close friends Elsie Beckman, Roy and Alice Bettenhausen and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 23, 1985, in the Baker Community Church with Pastor Jim Russ officiating. Organist Mildred Griffith accompanied Susan Russ as she sang "Old Rugged Cross" and " My God and I". Pallbearers were Roy Bettenhausen, Shane Bettenhausen, William Duffield, Bud Price, Pat Murphy and Pat Hanley. Interment was in the family lot of Bonnievale Cemetery in Baker.
