Chester G. Baines, 84, pioneer local resident, died unexpectedly Monday at his home, following a long illness.
He was bom in Myrtle, Ontario in 1867 and moved to Grand Rapids with his parents when a few months old. In 1897 he was united in marriage to Alice Sachett of Kewadin where they lived on a farm in North Milton until 1941. They retired in 1941 and moved to Kewadin which place has since been their home.
He is survived by his widow, Alice Barnes, three daughters Mrs. Vera Pederson, Mrs. Fern Grammar of Kewadin and Mrs. Ruby McCleary of Grosse Pointe Park: two sons Mervyn Barnes of Kewadin and Lloyd Barnes of Ypsilanti; a brother Dr. Glenn Barnes of Detroit; 14 grand children; and three great grandchildren.
Funeral rites were held Wednesday at the Dockery-Wilhelm Chapel.
Ministers in charge were Rev. J. C, Mathews of Ogdensburg and assisted by Rev. Clayton Zuse of Alden.
