A pall of sadness was cast over the entire community Wednesday, October 23rd. when it became known that Dennis Hubbell had passed away at 9 o'clock that morning at the home of his son Espy and wife, following an illness of a few days.
James Dennis Hubbell, son of Seth and Alvira Hubbell, was born in Myrtle, Ontario, Canada September 26, 1858. When he was 21 years of age he, with other members of the family, came with his parents to Michigan and located on the farm now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Albert Gribi of Milton.
He had been a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal church all of his life.
On May 16, 1883 he was united in marriage to Miss Matilda Jane Winters, who preceded him in death by four and one-half years, having passed on to her reward April 11, 1931.
Six children were born to bless this happy union, five boys and one girl. Harvey H; Espy P; Walter R.: Beatrice; Floyd E and Fred. Beatrice passed away at the tender age of 16 months and Fred, a twin brother of Floyd, died when two years and nine months old.
Besides his four sons he leaves 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, one brother Lester Hubbell of Traverse City, also seveal (several) more distant relatives and a host of friends to mourn his untimely departure.
Funeral services were held at the Kewadin church Saturday afternoon, October 26, with Rev. J. C. Mathews pastor of the Methodist church officiating, and interment was made in the family lot in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Those from a distance attending the funeral were: Harvey Hubbell, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hubbell and daughter Betty and son-in-law and Mr. and Mrs. Stonehouse, Mr. and Mrs Floyd Hubbell and three daughters Leona, Geneva and Emma, and Norman and Ervin Hubbell of Ypsilanti; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hubbell, Mrs. Sim Way, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin McFarren, Mr. Hollis Hubbell and sister Eva, Mrs. D. H. Winters and daughter Mrs. Herman Bottje of Traverse City, Mr. and Mrs. George Dean and Mrs. J. G. Booth of Yuba.
