In 1854, Mary L. moved to Duluth, St. Louis County, Minnesota with her parents , Frederick W. and Louisa, and her older brother Newell S. She married Andrew W. Weller, a potato farmer and teacher. They moved to Emmons County, North Dakota in 1882 where she was the first teacher in the first school organized in Emmons County - Gayton No. 1 where it was held in their home, which they built on the bank of Horsehead Creek.
Married December 28, 1865, to Andrew W. Weller, had one daughter, Mattie, in 1867 and one son, Edward (Eddy) in 1870.
