Vera Delmue Russell was born in St. George, Utah, Oct. 30, 1918, the daughter of Albert Delmue and Della Empey Delmue. She attended the University of Nevada and obtained a masters degree in education from Idaho State University. She started her teaching career at age 18 in a seven grade, one room school in Barkley. With the exception of 10 years following her marriage to Grant Russell in June of 1944, she taught without interruption in Idaho and Nevada. In addition to the basics, Vera taught desire, determination and discipline. Over the years she travelled extensively on every continent except for Antarctica. Her entire life was devoted to her family, teaching and travel. Vera went to live with the Lord July 14, 2006. She is survived by her husband, Grant Russell of Las Vegas; a daughter, Janet K. Heydt of La Jolla, Calif.; and two brothers, Pete Delmue of St. George, Utah, and Frank Delmue of Lincoln County. Visitation will be from 5-6 p.m. Thursday, July 20, with funeral services to follow, both at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89123. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, July 21, at St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery, in Pioche. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Nathan Adelson Hospice, 4141 S. Swenson St., Las Vegas, NV 89119.
