Inquest Notice.
state of Indiana, Sullivan County, ss
To whom it may concern:
I, Wm P Maxwell, was on September 23,
1904, duly notified that an accident happened
at the mine of the Bituminous Coal Co.,
known as the Hamilton mine, in Jackson
township Sullivan county. Ind; that I appointed
Charle Crawley and proceeded
to said mine; that, there I met James Epperson
the state mine inspector, and this mine
being a new one under construction, over
which the state mine inspector had no jurisaiction,
I proceeded to hear evidence and
make an inspection of the mine.
I found the mine not in operation as to
hoisting that on the morning of September
23, 1904 one Mark Bryant, of the age of 24
years, and a married man employed at the
said mine; that on the morning above mentioned
he went to the mine shaft and requested
his father, who was a fireman and
all around man, to lower him to the bottom,
which he did, while acting engineer; then
when he was lowered he gave the proper signal
to be hoisted, which his father attempted
to do, and in so doing he in some way lost
control of his engine which resulted in the
death of his son, Mark Bryant. That I gave
his bodv to the charge of St. Clair, the undertakerof
Hymera, Ind . for burial
