News reached Bluefield yesterday of the death at his home at Cucumber, in McDowell county, of Rev Rezin Vermillion Godbey, the aged father of Justice of the Peace E P Godbey, of this city.

The deceased was aged 85 years, having been born in Pulaski county, Virginia, on the 2d day of Jun, 1822. He had been a man of powerful physique and wonderful endurance. At the age of 22 he was licensed to preach and was active in the ministry for more than half a century. It was only after he had suffered a paralytic stroke, some years ago, that he gave up preaching.

One daughter, the child of his first wife, and three sons and thee daughters, children of a second marriage, survive him. They are Mrs G W Baker, of Graham Forge, Va; Mrs Alice A Kinzer, Durham, Okla; Mrs Laura Barnes, Cedar Bluff, Va; Mrs Julia Brewster, of Cucumber, with whom he had made his home since retiring from the ministry; 'Squire E P Godbey, of this city; Charles O Godbey, of Cane Brake, and George S Godbey, of Cedar Bluff, Va.

The remains were interred today at Crockett's Cave, in Tazewell county, Virginia.
