William Patrick Bailey, a resident of the Hillsboro community, passed away September 26, 2022 at his home. He was 75. "Big Bill Bailey" was born and raised in Astoria, OR on March 17, 1947 and was the first of two children born to Stanley and Marjorie (Layman) Bailey. He graduated from Astoria High School with the class of 1965. Bill moved to Portland where he attended Lewis & Clark college and played football. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology just prior to becoming a 17th round draft pick in the 1969 NFL Draft for the Dallas Cowboys as a Defensive Tackle. He would later go on to be inducted into the Lewis & Clark football hall of fame. Bill met his future wife, Constance "Connie" née Grycko, while working at Portland General Electric (PGE) with Connie's father. After a short courtship, he and Connie were married on July 5, 1969 in Oregon City, OR. They made their first home in Aloha and together had two children, Shaun and Heather. Bill served 27 years as a Law Enforcement Officer, retiring in 1998. He worked with the Oregon State Police, Tigard Police Department, and finished his career as a Patrol Sergeant with the Washington County Sheriff's Office. Numerous stories have been told. He was described by many as "legendary." Bill had many hobbies. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, shooting guns, playing on and building computers. He got his pilot's license and even worked on building his own Van's Aircraft RV-8A, until he had to stop flying.


He is preceded in death by his parents. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Connie, son and daughter-in-law Shaun and Amanda Bailey of Hillsboro, daughter and son-in-law Heather and Jason Tootikian of San Marcos, CA, sister Kathy Brownlie of Hillsboro, six grandchildren: Ashlynn, Aidan and Lexi Bailey of Hillsboro, Kaelyn, Makenna, and Asher Tootikian of San Marcos, CA, his brother-in-law, Joe Grycko, sister-in-law, Cathy Teske, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
