ATHENS - Services for Michael Bruce Brashers, 68, Athens, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lake Athens Baptist Church with John Green officiating.

Graveside services with military honors are scheduled for 2 p.m. at Whitehead Cemetery near Grapeland under direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Athens.

Mr. Brashers died April 27, 2008, in Athens.

He was born Aug. 12, 1939, in Grapeland to the late Norman and Bernice Shaver Brashers. He moved to Beaumont as a child and graduated in 1957 from South Park High School. He attended Lamar University and served in the Marine Corps. He returned to the Port Neches area and was a boardman with Pure Oil. He retired as a refinery operator from Unocal in 1999 after 35 years, and moved to Athens. He was a member of Lake Athens Baptist Church and Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Brashers, Athens; son, Kevin Brashers, Nederland; daughters, Pam Pickett, Allen, and Denise Stamatis, Nederland; sisters, Norma Jeffreys, Beaumont, Myrna Burrow, Moss Bluff, La., and Elizabeth Kast, Winnie; and 10 grandchildren.

Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
