Mrs. Alice L. Barnes succumbs to influenza

Mrs. Alice Loraine Barnes died at 2 a.m. in her home, No. 248 Palmer avenue, after a week's illness of influenza and pneumonia. She was the wife of Capt. Charles H. Barnes of the Inspector General's department at Albany and during her twenty-five years of residence in Syracuse had come to be one of the most widely known and highly respected women in the city.

She was born in Sunderland, Vt., and after being graduated from High school attended the Oswego Normal school, from which she was graduated with honors. After finishing her course at Oswego, she served for a time as one of the teachers in the Danforth school.

Previous to being seized by her fatal illness, Mrs. Barnes was an energetic Red Cross worker and was prominent in local Red Cross circles.

Her mother, Mrs. Graves, died a month ago and grief because of her mother's death served to weaken her constitution and make her a more easy prey to influenza.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Barnes is survived by three sisters, Mrs. William B. Noble of Glenside, Pa., Mrs. Robert J. Pervis of Manchester, Vt., and Louisa Graves of Syracuse.
Funeral services will take place at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Francher undertaking parlors at No. 812 Seymour street. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, the Rev. Dr. Charles Smith will have charge of the services.
