Nell Kinnebrew Smith, 85, died Sunday, December 12, 2004, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Stringer Funeral Home in Hazlehurst. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tabernacle Methodist Church in Dentville with burial in Gallman Cemetery.

Born July 18, 1919, to Walter Leonard and Virginia Purser Kinnebrew in Copiah County, Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Gallman High School and Copiah-Lincoln Junior College. Most recently she was a resident of Riggs Manor in Raymond. She was the youngest of her family of nine children, and the last surviving "Kinnebrew girl." She was admired for her creativity and attention to all details. A very gifted artist, who only began painting later in life, she had many art showings, including a solo show at the Eudora Welty Library. She was also a talented singer, and dedicated gardener.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry (Jack) Smith. Survivors include her daughter, Diane and husband, Joseph Wever of Bedford, Ind.; son, William Henry (Skip) Smith and wife, Carolyn of Hazlehurst; and daughter, Susan and husband, Charles Wall, III of Walnut Creek, Calif.; grandchildren, Dedric Gill, III, David Gill, Don Gill, Dr. Todd Smith, Bradd Smith, Ashton Wall and Chas Wall, IV; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Hannah, Dedric IV, Mary Katherine, Elizabeth and Don Michael Gill, Carly and Camille Smith. In addition, she leaves behind a host of family and friends, nieces and nephews, and especially her cousin and adopted daughter, Ann Williams of Crystal Springs.
