Camden - After an illness of only a week Samuel Colclough died yesterday at his home on Parnasus street. Death was due to a general breaking down from old age.
Samuel Colclough was born in Lanedelph, a pottery town one mile from Lane End, Staffordshire, England, September 8, 1832. He was a son of Samuel and Elizabeth Lawton Colclough. His mother died in 1843. In 1844 he came to Ameerica, sailing May 1, and landed late in June and settled in Jersey City. In that city he was employed as an apprentice in an American pottery, and later engaged with Undertaker Stiff, and afterward for nine years he was employed in the wagon and carriage shop of Samuel Needham in that city.

His first trip to this vicinity was in 1853 when he visited his father who had moved to Osceola in 1852, and saw the frame of the present Methodist Episcopal Church ediface in Camden raised. In 1856 he settled in Osceola and later in Florence and worked at the carpenters trade. Mr Colclough's father left Osceola and died in Leavenworth, Kansas in 1886 or 1887. In August 1862 Samuel Colclough enlisted from Florence in Co. A 10th NY Heavy Artillery, and was mustered out in June 1865, and resided in Florence util October 12, 1883, when he moved to this village where he has since resided. He was thrice married. In October 1865 to Miss Ann Fox, in 1868 to Mrs. Louisa Oram and his third wife was Mrs. Elizabeth Dawley, whom he married July 26, 1898, who survives him.

Mr. Colclough was a modest, unassuming man, and a friend to every one. He had an unusually cheerful and sunny disposition and his greeting was always happy and smiling. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church of this village, and was a faithful and loyal communicant and upright in all his dealings. He will be greatly missed as an affectionate and thoughtful husband and father and a firm and faithful friend, who has gone to his eternal reward full of hope in the final resurrection. He was a member of J. Parsons Stone Post GAR, and makes one less from the thinning ranks of the veterans to answer to the earthly roll call. He is survived by three children, George Colclough of Stockbridge, Mrs. F. C. Dexter of Adams and F. S. Colclough of Camden, also four stepsons, Henry Oram of Fairport, Albert Oram of Florence and William and Charles Oram of Point Rock.
