Robert G. Gibney of New Paltz, NY died Thursday, February 22, 2024 at age 93 at the Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
He was born in Pleasantville, NY. He was the son of the late Bradford & Edna Knapp Gibney.
He served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War. In 1966 he purchased and ran the Country Store of Gardiner, NY. He was also a manager at the Great American Supermarket in New Paltz for twenty years. He was later employed by Vassar Brothers Hospital in the engineering department for ten years.
He was a volunteer for Gardiner Fire and Rescue from 1966-1986 and a life member. He was a pilot of both land and sea planes as well as a member of the New Paltz R/C Flying Club. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and rider for 76 years. He enjoyed boating and was a former boat owner. He enjoyed playing his organ and was self taught.
Bob was a great father, husband, and friend who touched the lives of many on his journey.
Bob is survived by his son William Domery and his long-time companion Doreen Strang of New Paltz. Many nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Mary Gibney (2019), a daughter, Lee Ann Domery (1972) and a brother, Joseph Gibney.
A graveside service was held on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Charles Cemetery, with Fr. Matthew A. Yatkaukas officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations were made to the Gardiner Fire Department or the New Paltz Rescue Squad.
