GRACE — Alvin Leo Bassett, 58, of Grace, passed away Friday, December 21, 2007, at his home. He was born January 29, 1948, at Soda Springs, Idaho, the son of Henry Loren and Helen Maryetta Hansen Bassett. He was raised and educated in Soda Springs, living the last 17 years in Grace.
He married Donna Stienman in 1966. They were later divorced. He married Sandra Kay Jack, April 21, 1971 in Pocatello, Idaho.
He served in the U. S. Navy. Alvin had been a heavy machine operator and contractor for J. R. Simplot. The past 28 years he was with Bassett Building and Construction. He trained for jobs and studied all his life to improve his abilities for work.
He was a member of the Christian of Hope Lutheran Church and the John Birch Society. He loved his family.
Alvin was a fan of Dale Earnhardt; a great bowler with many trophies and pins. He was an inventor of many things and loved and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Sandra, of Grace; two sons and six daughters and their spouses, Jaysen and Debrah Bassett, Soda Springs, Idaho, Joshua and Sara Bassett, Pocatello, Idaho, Evelynn and John Hufford, Hamilton, Ohio, Melissa and Dale Schimke, Wessington Springs, S.D., Rhonda Wood, Crooksville, Ohio, Debrah and Robert Stacey, Pocatello, Idaho, Billie Jean Smith, Montpelier, Idaho, and Korey Young, also Montpelier, Idaho. Also surviving are 28 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters, Dee and Pat Bassett, Grace, Idaho, Ted and Judy Bassett, Curtis and Sue Bassett, Shuell and Pauline Bassett, all of Soda Springs, Idaho, Jeraldine and Bill Bowen, Soda Springs, Idaho, Connie and Van Christensen, Riverdale, Idaho, and Beverly Shurtleff, Soda Springs, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Lavell Bassett, and a sister, Wendy Bassett.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, December 24 at 11 a.m. at the Sims Funeral Home in Soda Springs. Friends may call on Sunday evening, Dec. 23 at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs. Services are under the direction of the Sims Funeral Home.
