Edward C. Vingo, a lifelong resident of Norwalk, died on Wednesday, October 20, at Norwalk Hospital after a brief illness. He was 90 years old. Born on August 7, 1914, he was the son of the late Carmine and Mary Porta Vingo. Mr. Vingo lived his entire life in Norwalk. As a boy, he helped out in his father's store and with farming vegetables. He was also employed at the Norwalk Lock Factory. He was a veteran of the Second World War in the 36th Infantry Division. He was wounded at Mounte Cassiano, Italy, and received a Purple Heart. After the war, Mr. Vingo became the sole proprietor of Vingo's Market. For 39 years, it remained a staple of the South Norwalk community. He owned the business until his retirement in 1978. He is survived by his wife, Jean Mientka Vingo, of Norwalk; four sons: Lewis and his companion, Carol Mulhair, of Norwalk; Robert and his wife Elaine, of Newtown; Patrick of Norwalk; Jeffrey and his companion, Donna Karagus, of Trumbull; one daughter, Marta, of Norwalk; and one sister, Marta Errico, also of Norwalk. Mr. Vingo is also survived by six grandchildren: Tricia Vingo Thompson and her husband, Michael, of Alpharetta. GA: April Vingo of W. Yarmouth, MA; Rebecca, Tracy, Daniel, and Carrie, all of Norwalk: three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Vingo is predeceased by three brothers, Michael, Joseph, and Louis Vingo, and two sisters, Marge Vingo Sileo and Jennie Vingo Buchanan. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Saturday in St. Philip Church, 1 Father Conlon Place, Norwalk. Friends may call at the Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk, today from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Parents & Friends of Lower Fairfield Center, 146 Silvermine Avenue, Norwalk.
