The following obituary is from the Isabel, SD "News" issue of Friday, Jan. 9, 1925:

"Clayton N. Woodruff was born in Livingstone County, Illinois, on July 3rd 1864. When he was eighteen years of age he came to South Dakota, in which state, with the exception of short periods in Illinois and Wisconsin, he has resided ever since.
When he was 21 years of age, he was married to Caroline E. James and to them were born two sons, Norman and Victor.
He and his wife moved about three years ago to the Krumrei farm southwest of Isabel. Here on Dec. 28th, 1924, he was attacked by the sickness which, making rapid progress, culminated in his death on Dec. 30th at the age of 60 years and 6 months.
He leaves to mourn his death his widow, their two sons, Capt. Victor Woodruff, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Norman Woodruff of Wessington, S. D., and three brothers and three sisters.
His unexpected death came as a shock to the community, where he was much respected, and a large number of people assembled in the Congregational Church of Isabel, where on January 3rd the pastor, Rev. Fred Smith, conducted the funeral services.
The remains in charge of the widow and sons, were taken to Wessington, S. D., where on Sunday, Jan. 4th, the final rites were observed, and interment made in Rose Hill Cemetery."
