COUNTY COUPLE KILLED IN ONE-CAR CRASH

A Riverhaven man and his wife were fatally injured about 1:15 a.m. yesterday as the car in which they were riding crashed into a four-foot embankment a mile north of Tri-Lakes at the Whitley-Noble County line.

Mrs. Boyles died of a fractured neck, crushed chest, compound fractures of both legs and other injuries.

Myron Hutchins of Kendallville, Noble County deputy coroner, who investigated in the case of Mr. Boyles inasmuch as the crash occurred on the Noble County side of the road, has indicated he will return a verdict of accidental death.

Dr. Jerome Waite of Columbia City, Whitley County coroner, who investigated relative to Mrs. Boyle's death, also has indicated a verdict of accidental death in her case.

Also investigating the mishap were State Troopers Charles Buse, Richard Crosley and Hugh Geiger.

Officers reported that at the time of the crash Mr. And Mrs. Boyles and their adopted daughter were returning home after spending Christmas Eve at the home of Mrs. Boyles' son, Ronald Begue, at Round Lake, which is one of the Tri-Lakes. State Road 102 intersects U.S. 33 a short distance east of the crash scene.

Boyles, who was an employee of the Mays Sand & Gravel Co. before becoming Lincoln National Life Insurance Company maintenance supervisor, was a native of Dugger and a veteran of World War II, serving with the Seventh Cavalry division and taking part in a number of South Pacific campaigns.

Mrs. Boyles, a native of Chicago, and her husband had resided in this area since their marriage Dec. 6, 1941. They had lived the past four years in Riverhaven on R.R. 12, Fort Wayne.

Surviving Mrs. Boyles in addition to the adopted daughter and son, Ronald Begue, are another son, Ralph Begue, also a resident of Round Lake, and three grandchildren.

Surviving Boyles in addition to the adopted daughter, two stepsons and three grandchildren are his mother, Mrs. Minnie Boyles, Arcola; three brothers, Walter Boyles of Fort Wayne, Robert Boyles , Riverhaven, and George Boyles, in California, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Ethel Meredith, this city, and Mrs. Kathryn Griffith, Arcola.

The bodies are at Smith Funeral Home, Columbia City, where friends may call after 7 p.m. today.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home with the Rev. Dale T. Heinbaugh, pastor of the First Baptist church in Columbia City, officiating. Burial will be in Christian Chapel Cemetery at Merriam.
