LAYTON-Mary LaVaun Briggs Roberts, 97, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at her son's home.

She was born June 2, 1910 in Salt Lake City, the daughter of George Edward and Cora Althea Barlow Briggs. Mary married Welden C. Roberts on July 18, 1934 in the Logan Temple. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1982.

She graduated from Davis High School and Utah State Agricultural College with a teaching degree.

Mary was an active member of the LDS Church serving in numerous stake and ward positions. She served a full-time mission with her husband in the San Antonio, TX Mission from 1980-1981. She also served two stake missions and was an Ogden Temple Ordinance Worker.

Mary was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, a charter member of the Layton Ladies Literary and the OFT Club for 75 years.

She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, reading, gardening, journals and her friends. She loved being in her home on the farm where she was able to spend her days with the help of her loving family and friends, with the assistance of Alpine Hospice.

Surviving are her three sons, Dix B. (Ruth) Roberts, Penrose, UT; Sid R. (Jeanette) Roberts, Layton, UT; Bruce E. (LuAnne) Roberts, Layton, UT; two daughters, Ann R. (Dan) Layton, Layton, UT; Laurie R. (Paul) Linford, Allen, TX; 29 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, brother, Barlow (Adele) Briggs, Salt Lake City; and sister, Florence (Max) Anderson, Tooele. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson and two brothers.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, May 5, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Layton 37th LDS Ward Chapel, 505 So. 1000 W. Friends and Family may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N. Main Street and Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Church.
Interment: Kaysville City Cemetery.
