RAY MERWYN BARNES
1938 - 2008

Ray passed away at his home on Monday, April 28, 2008. Ray was born January 1, 1938 in Pensacola, FL and lived here most of his life. Ray was married to his wife, Sara for 50 years. He was a devoted husband, father and Papa.
Outside of his family his greatest joy was traveling the open highway for over 30 years. He enjoyed taking his motorhome with his wife and grandchildren to all parts of the US. He enjoyed golfing with family and friends. He was named Overdrive Trucker of the year for 2000, and awarded Road Star and the 2,000,000 mile safe drivers award for LandStar/Inway.
Ray was preceded in death by his son Ray M. Barnes, Jr., and 2 sisters Patricia Alsup and Sue Livingston.
He is survived by his wife, Sara; children, Renee Smith and Robert (Karen) Barnes; grandchildren, Stephanie Barnes "Papa's Angel", Stanley Smith, Danada (Jeremy) Patterson, Adam Barnes, and Wesley Miller; great-grandchildren, Jacey and Jalyn Patterson; brothers, David (Becky) Barnes and Jon (Regina) Barnes; and sister, Leahmanda (Marty) Barnes/Malkin; numerous nieces, nephews and many cherished friends.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 5, 2008 at 12:00 noon in Pensacola Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 11:00 A.M. the day of the service.
The family request contributions be made to Covenant Hospice or MADD if they choose.
A special thank you to Dr. Thomas B. Tan and the staff at Hope Medical Group and the nurses and support staff of Baptist Hospital, 3 West and Covenant Hospice.
